Prescott rock fans hit the MotherLode

A thundering herd will invade the Yavapai County Fairgrounds Saturday, Oct. 17, but it won't be racehorses - it will be a stampede of musicians for the first-ever MotherLode N. Arizona Rock 'n Roll and Arts Festival.

"I felt the area was ready for a festival of this magnitude, because there is sufficient talent in the area to support the event," said organizer Tim Hills.

The idea for an all-ages festival devoted to rock 'n roll music popped into Hills' head a couple of months ago, and he began lining up the list of bands to play. He ended up with10 in all.

Digital Summer is the headliner, a group that, in less than two years, has had the top four requested songs on Phoenix radio station 98 KUPD. This hard rock ensemble has shared the stage with Alice in Chains, Godsmack, Disturbed and many others.

The Attitude, another Phoenix-based bunch that "makes a lot of noise," is coming to Prescott for MotherLode, and has done shows with Flyleaf, Bullet for My Valentine, and Buckcherry, among others. Local rockers Throttle, known for "an amazing live show filled with energy," are on the bill and have done shows with Dokken, Ratt and Metal Elvis this past year. Storm of Perception, another Prescott bunch, "is like a storm brewing" that promises to "tear it up" during MotherLode. Storm is managed by Alan and Heather Niven of Guns and Roses and Great White Fame.

Dc4 out of Hollywood is on the bill and features former members of Dio, Armoured Saint and Odin. Another MotherLode performer,
I Am Tamela, won Best Song in Film for her piece "Vampiro" at the Traildance Film Festival. She has been on the Tyra Banks show and is also a Prescott artist.

Other bands that will take the stage are The Havenites, The Cheaters, The Fair and Debonair, and Attack of the Rising.

MotherLode will have more going on than music. Vendors, such as Blue Turtle Island, Commspeed, P.V. Bike Works, Perfect Image Hair Studio, Virtual Property Developer, the Drunken Lass, Leap of Faith Tattoo, Desert Mafia Clothing, Prescott Nite Life and food sellers, will add to the MotherLode's energy.

"Outside of Phoenix, there is not another town in Arizona that can boast as much talent and as many places to play," Hills said of Prescott musicians and the town's opportunities to perform.

For the first time, MotherLode will bring them all together in one spot from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance or $32 the day of the festival. People who bring two cans of food to help out the Yavapai Food Bank will save $2 off the ticket price at the gate. The county fairgrounds are located at 10501 E. State Route 89A in Prescott Valley.
